Since 1665, it has been an administrative center and town hall - the only royalty to ever live here was King Louis I (Bonaparte ) from 1807-10. The massive Central Hall is used for political functions, over 100x55 feet, with a 90 foot high ceiling. The map embedded in the floor has the nerve to depict Amsterdam as the center of the world. The walls are filled with reliefs and statuary.
