Prehistoric Ruins Near Akrotiri's by siffer

Santorini - Greece, Ioánnina This simple pile of rocks doesn't look like much, but is filled with symbolism. The renowned Greek archaelogist Spyridon Marinatos is most famous for leading the excavations here, totally devoted, and following his sudden death on site in 1974 his remains were first interred in the city he loved most. They have since been removed to a hill overlooking the site. He was already famed for discovering the burial grounds for the battle of Marathon as well as the site of the battle of Thermopylae, and will remembered forever in the video game Indiana Jones and the Lost City of Atlantis.
