Budapest - Hungary, Budapest The huge Royal Palace dominates the southern part of Castle Hill. Like the city, it has been destroyed and rebuilt many times, dating from the original construction in the 13th C by King Bela IV. In the 15th C it assumed a Renaissance architecture under King Mathias, one of the world's most extravagant buildings. It was destroyed during the Christian reconquest from the Ottomans and again in the 19th C and again during the Nazi withdrawal in WWII.
