Sailboats on the Caldera's by siffer

Santorini - Greece, Ioánnina The caldera was created by a massive volcanic explosion about 1650BC. So much volcanic lava and ash was expelled that the empty space beneath could not support the weight of the earth overlying, which collapsed into the sea creating the caldera ( cauldron ). Before this Santorini was a round island. Geologists suggest that this happens here approximately every 20000 years.
