St. Wenceslas's by siffer

Prague - Czech Republic, Hlavni Mesto Praha Wenceslas Square has been the business and cultural center of Prague since the 14th C when the city was the capitol of the Holy Roman Empire. At the head is the equestrian statue of St. Wenceslas, patron saint of Bohemia, murdered by his evil brother Borislav over a century ago. It dates to the early 20th C. At the base, statues of Sts. Adalbert, Ludmila, and Agnes, other important figures in Czech history. Monuments honor those who died opposing Communist rule and also philosophy student Jan Palach who burned himself to death in 1968. Few sites are more important historically - this is the site where Czechoslovakia declared independence from the Austro-Hungarian empire in 1918, where the Nazis held their massive rallies, and where the country celebrated their defeat of the Russian ice hockey team in 1969.
