Stolpersteine ( Stumbling Blocks )'s by siffer

Berlin - Germany, Berlin Throughout Berlin and much but not all of Germany are 10x4 cm cement blocks covered with brass plates. These are set into the sidewalks in front of buildings from which Jews, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, and Romas were taken during the National Socialist era. They bear names, dates of birth deportation and death, and location of death, solemn reminders. The German artist Gunter Demnig placed the first of these in Cologne in 1994 and the first in Berlin in 1996. The 95Eu fee per block has been supported by individuals and companies. These were located next to the Jewish Free School in Berlin.
