Istanbul - Turkey, Istanbul The skyline of Sultanahamet is dominated by the six minarets and ever-enlarging domes of the National Mosque, commissioned by Sultan Ahmet I and built by a student of the famed architect Sinan in the early 17th C. The size is hard to capture on film up close - the main prayer area is 70x80 yards and the largest dome is 25 yds across and 50 yds in height.
