Hello everybody,
I am proud to announce a significant improvement for GLOBOsapiens. It's like an evolution. Did you also find that with the increasing amount of information contributed by the members the site did show a lack of finding the info? Well we did, and we came up with an idea on reorganising the available info. Try to type in a place name in the search field on the top of each page. GLOBO will most likely direct you to our new destination guides.
All the GLOBO content is gathered there, organised like a calogue. You can browse it starting from a continent, over a country to the place you are interested in. That way you do not have to search long for infos on particular places. In the former GLOBO versions you all content on particular places was split to thousands of member pages. Now we can work all together on a travel resource which could become the most interesting one on the internet.
But hold on... this is just half of the changes! A complete new concept is comming to GLOBO! Let's work all together! How? Try to locate a city of you choice and have a look on the introduction text. You will notice a small [edit text] button. Each member has the power to add text to this locations, and to edit existing one. We track the changes inside a history which becomes available after the first entry is made called [editors]. Found a spelling mistake? Simply correct it! You think the available text deserves some more input? Add it! We provide points in 3 steps. There are 10 points for a new entry, 5 for major changes and 1 for spelling corrections.
There are over 3 million destination names available. Try it out, I am sure you will find some text to edit :-)
Let's work all toghether an a reliable and interesting destinations recource and let us feel the power of the travel community!
Have fun!
Andy

Wow! It works too, just entered a short comment both at "Johannesburg" and "Munich".
I also see some additional statistics and options together with current uploads there, thats great. We now also have so much to do and this makes GLOBO and even more interactive site, is surely to bring more members, partners and sponsors.
The ten points are too generous though but motivating, considering the work of other contributions like scanning/uploading a picture (takes 10 minutes) or submitting a decent report (takes 1-3 hours) or travel tip. I suggest 5 (new) and 1 (change) point/s for this activity accordingly. Otherwise, please increase points for reports to 75. Members please test and reply...

great! The first entry :-) The great thing though is, that now any member can add info to that text or correct spelling mistakes. The history of editors is listed next to the text. Loads of places to go ;-)

Hi Misty,
thats so easy. Just login, type in the place name into the search field on the top and then locate the [edit text] button after the dummy text. There is also a new counter for characters inside the form.
Hope this helps,
Andy
PS: I am really curious to see the dummy texts replaced one by one after time on GLOBO, plus to see more people edit one text and add there 2 cents to the destination.

I checked this out too, but suffice it to say, maybe I'm not getting it..
I typed in for example "mombasa" my pic of the Masai boy come up along with my report and another members report. I saw the area where you can edit .. but I'm confused as to what you want posted there?? Do I just copy what I already wrote about Mombasa? do I just reprint ally the tips I've previously posted? If this is the case, why reprint things 2x? if I'm not getting the concept right please correct me.

Tashi, the text you add there will become the introductory text to the place regardless of all reports that might have been writen about the place. As a start, yes, paste any serious comment there you wish. Different to individual reports, this text might be edited and updated anytime by other members (or perhaps never for remote places) so that the introduction on the place is eventually always up-to-date. Its like giving a MAIN description for all the already written reports. [ This Message was edited by: rangutan on 2005-03-14 21:14 ] --- Rudolf "Rangutan" Graspointner

k, I get that, however what's to stop someone from just copying the introduction from their report?? and what if someone doesn't like my introduction, can they just delete it and say add their own introduction from the report?

Hi,
of course you can copy the some text from your introduction of a report. The goal is to provide a general description of the place without personal details. In reports for example I often read... i visited xx with my family in 2003... That would not be helpful for a introduction in the destination guides.
Have a look on the destination guide introduction misty and rangutan wrote together on New York:
http://www.globosapiens.net/united-states-travel/New%20York/New%20York.html
Other members can correct spelling mistakes, add info and so on. Different to for example reports.
