Hi
I have been growing increasingly more annoyed by the spammers. Some of them, mainly women, so dumb that they would post dating proposals to both male and female members of Globo.
I am trying to hit the spammer button as soon as I spot these, but until they are removed, they continue clogging our site with spam like viruses.
I would like to propose a mechanism, based on which senior Globo members would be able to suspend such spammers until Globo staff can investigate/review them and then delete them or even eventually re-activate them.
The suspension can be conditional, based on a number of criteria, which could be ticked off by the senior Globo members. It would work as a decision tree, based on which the suspension could work. For example:
- Does the member in question send love letters as messages?
- Does the member in question send more than 10 guestbook entries with dating proposals?
- Does the member in question post self-promotion travel agency material?
- Does the member in question post indecent/racists/abusive material?
- etc
If the answer to at least one of the questions (or a combination of criteria) is yes, then the member in question would get suspended immediately.
Also, we could also agree on the seniority of the membership, which would allow for those member to trigger the suspension, e.g. top 25 members or length of membership
I am looking forward to hearing other suggestions/responses.
Kindest regards

Hi Krys,
yes, these spammers are annoying. I support your proposal. Btw, I know that Globo has got a mechanism to avoid multiple contact mails containing the same text. I wonder if that couldn't also help with this kind of guestbook entries....
Hope your arm is getting better and better!

I am in full agreement with Krys, it is most annoying to log on and find the guest books full of rubbish and 'travel reports' blatant adverts for travel firms clearly copied directly from a brochure, I get enough spam in my private email anyway without also having to avoid it on Globo --- I am no longer a stranger in a strange land.

I agree completely about the irritation. I, also, seem to hit that spam button pretty often.
However
1. I am impressed by the speed with which they are deleted after a complaint and 2. I am even more impressed when my email inbox has a mesage that somebody with a silly babyish name has sent me a message on Globo, only to find they have been vapourised before I can even see their daft message.
Therefore I don't know that we need any change unless Andy is finding it burdensome deleting them. Also I would admit to getting a bit trigger-happy when I have had a few of these and I may have been a bit to ready to delete people when a quiet warning would have sufficed - and probably did. --- Grieve not for that which you cannot do but rejoice in that which you can.

Hi David,
I agree with you completely.
Just to clarify - I am proposing a mechanism to suspend and not to delete suspicious or pseudo members. Andy would have exclusive rights to delete anyone. But suspension would mean that the member in question would be barred to post anything until Andy decides what to do.
Kind regards

I agree with Krys's suggestion of suspending until Andy can decide what to do. The Guestbook posting are becoming annoyingly common.
What I really dislike are the Travel Agency Reports. I've stopped even leaving comments and ratings.

I, like several other members, are quick to spot a spammer, I find that a single star on a 'report' recieves very quick attention from Andy bt the dodgy G book postings take a little longer to be removed, still, the members can just ignore these if they so choose. --- I am no longer a stranger in a strange land.

Hi everybody,
thank you for all your comments and reporting spammers. I am continuosly screening the reports on spammers and remove them a.s.a.p. It looks like there is a company active that creates business for some peru companies by increasing search engine ranking through posts on GLOBO. This are no machines or automated services but real humans that post those spam. Therefore it is impossible to automatically identify them. A real person has to sort them out. I just did my own research on cusco reports at GLOBO and removed about 10 reports and members from them. It is crutial to be fast and complete in removing all their accounts and information. This seems to be the only way to get rid of them.
I can only urge every honest member of GLOBO to hit the spam button as much as needed and as fast as possible so we can clean up all the mess an prevent flooding GLOBO with this marketing crap.
If you notice any consistency in text or phrasing let me know about it. I might be able to come up with a filter. However it has to be an almost exact matching of recuring text or any similarity.
Thank you all for your help in keeping GLOBO free of spam.
Kind regards, Andy

Hi All
How about before someone being able to post a report or a picture one needs to be registered for some time.

Oh, that's a perfect solution! If they have to be members for a week or two first, then they get a chance to explore existing reports before posting there first one, and it would discourage the onetime spam posters!
