Alanya is a beautiful resort on the eastern med almost due north of Cyprus. It is shielded by the Taurus mountains and dominated by the 14th century castle.
|
Alanya is divided into three-Cleopatra beach,Centre and East beach. It has everything for both holidaymakers and part-time residents alike. Shopping is both interesting and fun-especially on market day (Friday) remember to barter as good deals can be agreed. Bus and boat trips can be arranged through the many small tour companies, which prove to be a lot cheaper than holiday companies. There are many varied bars/restaurants who offer a wide menu and local/imported drinks.

What's really great: |
Everything about Alanya is special.A good long walk around the city makes you feel a part of the place, followed by an ice cold Efesbeer to cool you down

Sights: |
As previously stated,Alanya castle dominates the city. This is a must to visit this hisorical sight. This can be reached by local bus, taxi,or for the really keen by walking!I would recommend ascending by bus, then a leisurly walk down to be best. While descending, there are many hand made arts/crafts available for purchase.A drink in one of the local bars provides necessary refreshment. The views from Alanya castle are absolutely breathtaking. The chapel, barracks etc are all well indicated with history/details outlined in several languages including English.Remember to take your camera,as you will never fail to be impressed by the views.
At the foot of the castle on the harbour side, you will find the Red tower which is also steeped in history.Just along from here are the ancient shipbuilders yards.A visit to both of these is also highly recommended.
An alternative to view all three is to go on one of the many boat trips available. These leave the harbour daily.

Restaurants: |
I would dont start to try to recommend any one specific bar/restaurant to visit. There are so many all with their own character. The menus are both vast and varied--Turkish,European,Chinese etc. Many drinks are also available from local to imported.Efes is Turkeys most popular beer and an ice cold one is very refreshing.Local wines are both pleasant and cheap.Vodka/Gin etc are made locally and prove to be a lot cheaper than imported spirits.Raki must be tried but in moderation,it tastes like Pernod,is drunk with water, but too much can cause your legs refuse to accept operating instructions from the brain.

Useful information!
It is only a pity that you do not show us pictures.
By your profile picture I would guess that you did not follow your own recommendations about raki!
Cheers!
