i was in bangkok last year means 2003. first i tell all of u that when u arrive & finish ur custom then go tourist information centre & colect ur assential brouture. its free. after that if u want cheaper way to go in the main city i suggest u go through bus. its fine if luggage not heavy. haha ! i have too heavy in luggage. if u r interested to stay in the middle of entertainment area, u must stay sukumbit road. here u find ur range hotel. during my trip i was stay in soi 11 at comfort lodge hotel. its not bad --- standerd room , with a/c, secured,24 hours reception facility. totally i m satisfied on them. it takes for a day 400 bath. all staff r nice. u go for shopping chatu-chat during its fixed day,u go mvk plaza for mobile & others thing. in the city morning & evening time r too traffic. so mostly use skytrain, its easy & time saver. for ur food u find variety range restuarent in the sukumbit road. if u need any suggestion plz contact with me.
