Chiang Mai is a great city in the north of Thailand. It's got an old portion to it with stone walls and great Wats. There is also a palace and temple just outside the city.

Favourite spots: |
The entire city is amazing to walk around. It's old with a lot of history, but also modern and growing.

What's really great: |
I did a three day trek out of the Chiang Mai Garden Guesthouse. Our guides were great and we got to see a number of villages in the hills. The trekking was just hard enough (you felt tired but good at the end of each day, not completely destroyed)! And the people we met along the way were fabulous.

Sights: |
The night bazaar is amazing here. You can find everything you could ever imagine wanting or needing. It's crowded, but you can people watch from the many restaurants along the way. If you go into the underground markets you'll find some of the most amazing artists anywhere. They can sketch anything you like and they do it quickly.

Accommodations: |
Chiang Mai Garden Guesthouse. They actually found me at the train station, but just ask around and check some of the tour books and you'll find it.

Other recommendations: |
The palace was all right, now fantastic. But the Wat Phra Doi Suthep is great. There's an amazing view of the city (if the weather's good) and it's a fun Wat to roam around and explore.
