We left from Schiphol, Amsterdam airportfor an evening flight to Cairo in Egypt. This flight takes about 5 hour from the Netherlands. On most of my trips I travel alone but this time my 15 year old son travelled with me. When he was eleven he asked me to take him for a trip to see the Great Pyramids. I found him a little to young to take him with me so I promised him when he would turn 15 he could go. Then I blinked my eyes and he was 15 :-) Because I was late with booking his flight there was no more tourist class available. The only solution was to buy him a Business Class ticket because we could not pospone the trip. According the stewardess the situation was quite unique with the a 15 year old sitting Business Class and his father in the back of the plane. We arrived at Caïro airport around one at night and spend quite some time going through the passport control. We were picked up by the hotel shuttle and brought to the center of Caïro. We are staying at the Nile Hilton hotel which was build in 1959 as the first modern hotel in Caïro. The hotel stands on the bank of the Nile across the Gazira island with the Caïro Tower. This tower is 185 meters high and dominated our view when we woke up in the morning. This was a working day for me but my son visited the Egyptian Museum which is situated at the rear of the hotel on Midan Tahrir square. This museum has the biggest collection of Pharaonic treasures in the world. Both the mummy of Ramses the second and the Golden mask of Totanchamon made a lasting impression on my son. The next day we left early in the morning towards Saqqara, an hour south of Caïro on the border between the Nile valley and the Sahara desert. Crossing the Nile in the early morning gave us a beautiful view on a villa and a Coptic church on the banks of this great river. The Nile River is the longest river in the world. From its major source, Lake Victoria in east central Africa, the White Nile flows generally north through Uganda and into Sudan w,
