We took a helicopter from Las Vegas to see the Grand Canyon, (in Arizona), at sun rise.
The Spaniards were the first white men to view the Grand Canyon in 1540, 80 years Before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock.

This report follows my Las Vegas Report. It is like watching the birth of the World. The Canyon is on both sides of the Colorado River. It now is a World Heritage Site. We landed at Yaki Point on the southern rim of the River above the Bright Angel Trail. It was very dark and chilly but we snuggled together and enjoyed a cup of coffee while we waited for the sun to appear over the eastern mountains.

River through the Grand Canyon
|
|
The first rays turned the Canyon a pink color then the Mountains below turned a red-orange and then golden. The valleys were filled with trees and wild flowers I was surprised because I thought it would be barren. We had been told that this was the largest area of erosion on the Planet. The green colored River winds it’s way through the Canyon. We flew over a steep path, (that other people were walking on), to see the bottom of the Canyon.

What's really great: |
There are layers of stone, each one was a different color. The stones are array of colors, that range from black, red, a black and red stone, and a white/light yellow color. I liked the Coconino Sandstone, (adobe color the best). Our Pilot told us that this area was formed over one and one half billion years ago. The helicopter landed so we could walk across the foot bridge. I don't feel secure when I’m on a suspended bridge because of the swaying.

Sights: |
We drove to Sedona from Las Vegas. It takes about 5 hours to drive it.
We came to Sedona to stay for a few days with some friends.
Our first stop was at the Indian Gardens. These Gardens are filled with trees, vegetables, flowers and herbs that are use to make drinks, pills and creams that used for healing. This is where I learned that the bark of a tree could be used to make tea.
There are so many attractions here. We visited the Farley Homestead, the Pump House, Walter Jordan House and the Saddle Ranch.
The best place to buy souvenirs is at the General Store.

Accommodations: |
The helicopter landed so we could walk across the foot bridge. I don't feel secure when I’m on a suspended bridge because of the swaying. Our Pilot took us to see the Agnises Indian Site. This is an Archegonial Dig and we saw the ancient Buildings and some of the tools that they used. The Anasazi’s were the first People in this area, and they evolved into two Tribes, the Hopi and Pueblo.

History Of Las Vegas: Las Vegas, ("The Meadows" or "The Grasslands"), was given its name by Spaniards in the Antonio Armijo party, who used the water in the area while heading north and west along the Old Spanish Trail from Texas. In the 1800s, areas of the Las Vegas Valley contained artesian wells that supported extensive green areas or Meadows, (Vega in Spanish), thats why the name is Las Vegas. John C. Frémont traveled into the Las Vegas Valley on May 3, 1844, while it was still part of Mexico. He was a leader of a group of scientists, scouts and observers for the United States Army Corps of Engineers. On May 10, 1855 when the USA annexated the area, Brigham Young send 30 Mormon missionaries to the area to convert the Paiute Indian population. A fort was built near the current downtown area, serving as a stopover for travelers along the "Mormon Corridor" between Salt Lake and the Mormon colony at San Bernardino, California.

Hangouts: |
Las Vegas was a railroad town way back then. Las Vegas became a city on March 16, 1911. On our last night we went to see the Wynn Hotel. His father was one of my father's friends from the Detroit mob days. The next time we come to Las Vegas we are going to stay here. I like to try new hotels when I keep coming back to a place a few times.

When we got back to the Venetian hotel we took a gondola ride, (it cost $10.00 USD each). The ride goes thought the Grand Canal shopping center. It Italian architecture is fabulous Italian Village. The ceiling is blue with clouds floating on it. The ride ends at a re-creation of St. Mark's Square. That is when you see a tired Marco Polo, a glass blower, travelling musicans, a lady selling flowers and a flirty man. The shops are both reasonable and expensive.

Sedona is in the Oak Creek Canyon. Our friends have a beautiful home on the hills above the canyon. This is the center of Holistic Healing in the United States. We took part in a Seminar to learn how to eat better.
Every Café and Restaurant serves vegetarian meals. You can enjoy a massage, learn yoga, tai chai, how to meditate, or have a readying done by a Psych. Every Business seems to have a name with crystal in it.
Once, when we were in Las Vegas, a Lady came up to me and said, ’’Your diamond comes from the lost Continents of Atlantis’’, then she walked away leaving me stunned.
In Sedona, I had a Physic look into a crystal ball to do a reading for me. He knew nothing about the ring, and I was not wearing it. He told me that he saw a priestess from Atlantis, and she told him to tell me I was blessed, because I owned a precious gem.

It has always amazed me that two great man made and natural sights are so close together. I went to the canyon in a small plane with Scenic Airways, not for the faint hearted or claustrophobic |

You are so lucky, they have limited flights to and into the canyon now. Great report with "funny" pictures again. |
