In the middle of nowhere, there is somewhere, and people who love to live there. More than one will tell you that I came for a weekend, and twenty years later, I haven't gone back to where I came from.

You really do notice that you're in the middle of the Finnmark Plateu, miles and miles from the nearest cities. If you just came from the Norwegian coast, it feels as if you just stepped into another country. Flatter landscape. Different culture. Not just your typical coast vs mountain difference, but a whole different language, as this settlement is 90% Sámi.

Favourite spots: |
Alfred's Kro is a cosy café / restaurant. And with the arrival of the new smoking law, the downstairs pub, Maras, is also a wonderful place to spend your time, listen to random joiking, and eat the best reindeer pizza on the planet.
What's really great: |
This place must be experienced. If you want the experience of a lifetime, come for the Easter Festival, which includes reindeer races, snowscooter cross, concerts and the Sámi Melody Grand Prix.
Sights: |
Juhl's Silver Gallery is probably what this place is most well known for. In addition, I would like to mention the wonderful nature that is all around us...
Hangouts: |
There really are only two pubs: Maras and Násti. And no, that's not Nasty. Násti is the Sámi word for Star. However, my favourite is Maras, Birch woods

Hi Gard,
I read your report, drew a deep breath and began to dream - ok, that's sounds dramatic, but I really would like to see this place - what about some pictures?
Keep smiling, Christian |
