Kuala Lumpur is the perfect spot from which to explore both the city and the rest of Malaysia. KL is the central transportation and tour hub of the country.

What's really great: |
The shopping in China Town is great, especially if you like to haggle and make a great bargain. Bukit Bintang is a very good area for some of the best Indian and Chinese cooking I have run into in Malaysia. Batu Caves during Thaipusam is totally awesome and inspiring. Sungai Lipis whitewater is a rush. Taman Negara is great place for trekking and exploration. Pulau Perhentian is a relatively undeveloped island that has some great dive and snorkel spots. Pangkor is just great fun with kayaks, snorkeling, and good swim & sun. Pulau Langkawi Cenang Beach has a great place for banana splits right on the sand! Lastly, Pulau Penang is fascinating with it's old buildings and WWII history.

Sights: |
Batu Caves, Twin Towers, Menara, Hindu temples both in Chinatown-one is near Petaling street and is where the Thaipusam procession begins, the other is across from the Chinese assembly hall.
Accommodations: |
Mutiara Resort Kuala Lumpur for the high-end
Nightlife: |
YMCA in Brickfields, and the skydiving association that can be contacted at http://www.abcmalaysia.com for people interested in jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. Not my style, but they are great fun to watch.
Hangouts: |
Donington Pub and Longhouse between Lot 10 and the Istana Hotel.
Restaurants: |
Donington Pub and Longhouse, great variety of local and western meals & snacks. Wide screan TV for the soccer or rugby followers!
