Lincoln is an interesting mix of the ancient (Newport Arch, built by the Romans), the mediaeval (Lincoln Cathedral) and the modern (sixties office blocks and the new university). What makes the place interesting is that next door to a concrete monstrosity of an office block, you'll find Roman remains or a half-timbered shop.

Favourite spots: |
My personal favourite spot has to be Mediaeval Bishop's Palace just below the Cathedral. Panoramic views across Lincoln and a mediaeval ruin to poke around - what more could I ask for?

|
What's really great: |
I can't really answer this question - as a resident, I'm a little bit too close to notice the good things. ;-)
|
|
Sights: |
The cathedral, the castle, the mediaeval bishop's palace, the museum of Lincolnshire life - and there's always the option of boat trips along the Fossdyke from Brayford Pool...

Nightlife: |
Not Lincoln's strong point, I'm told. Not that I'd know: I'm an old fart. ;o)
|
|
Hangouts: |
For those who like real cider, either of the two Wetherspoons pubs in the city centre, or The Victoria at the rear of the castle. If you like the normal crap that passes for beer nowadays, I'm sure you'll find plenty of choice without my help!

I think writing about the place you live in is harder than writing about almost anywhere else! (I haven't had courage enough to do it yet!) Bravo for your effort -- nice photos, too. |
