A tourists paradise just 30 minutes by ferry from the centre of Sydney, Manly has absolutely boomed in the past 10 years. My opion may be biased but I do think that Manly has so much more to offer than Bondi these days
The most popular way to get here is on one of Sydneys ferries, departing from Circular Quay on a regular basis. On the ride across the harbour you will pass the opening of Sydney Heads, where the harbour spills out to the Pacific Ocean. Manly Cove is where the wharf is located and your point of disembarkation. This bay is a secluded area where you can partake in any many water activities including hiring boats, kayaks, along with paragliding, and this is also where Oceanworld and Manly Waterworks (waterslide park) are located. Walk up the Corso, a shopping mall that runs through the heart of Manly and arrive at the other end and you will find yourself on this world famous surfing beach.

Favourite spots: |
I love Manly, this is the closest place for any one on the northern beaches, right up to Palm Beach to come for a night out and there is so much happening during the day, especially through summer. There is always such a buzz about the place. During the summer there is always a variety of competitions of some kind being held on the beach, be it sandcastles, swimming, volleyball, surfing, the legendary aussie ironman series, if it can be done on the beach, its happens here.

What's really great: |
Manly is also host to an annual food and wine festival as well as a jazz fetival which are great times to be here although it does get very busy. There is also a market every weekend just off the corso where the stalls sell good quality local arts and crafts and an assortment of curios.

Sights: |
Visit the art gallery and museum located on the harbour just a 4 minute walk from the ferry wharf, head up to North Head, the headland on Manly's end of the Harbour where you can get some fantastic views of the harbour and back towards Sydney, North Head is also the location of the former Quarantine station, established in 1832, boats moored here upon arrival if into Sydney where immigrants were checked for any possible illness, if just one person was found to be infected the whole whole ship would be quarantined, these days it is reputed to be one of Australias most haunted buildings and is now host to a number of tours including an overnight ghost tour. Shelley Beach, a small sheltered beach located at one end of Manly beach is a great place to get away from the main action. There are also a number of popular walks in the are for more information go to www.manlyweb.com.au.

Accommodations: |
There is a backpackers hostel here, a couple of hotels but the most common and widely available type of accommodation is serviced apartments ranging in standards and costs.
Nightlife: |
Although nothing compared to Sydney there are some great places to go out in Manly a great start to the night or even great in the afternoon with the sun going down is the Jetty Bar at the Manly Wharf Hotel, located at the eastern end of Manly Wharf it is very popular and has a fantastic view over the water.
Hangouts: |
The Steyne located on the corner of the corso at the beach end of town is a great place with a number of rooms over 2 floors, The Ivanhoe on the corso has live music on certain nights and the Charlton (or Charlie) Bar is a great venue with a variety of live music depending on the night of the week. The Boatshed is a cosy little venue that is host to a lot of live gigs, its very intimate and you can catch some great acts there.
Restaurants: |
There are loads of restaurants all over the place as well as your usual fast food outlets, head to a pub for a cheap but good quality meal. My favourite restaurants though is called Out of Africa across the road and just up from the Wharf, the food is to die for and they have a couple of guys playing african music and drums, its loud but is very entertaining. Another favourite thing for me to do is go out to one of the many cafes with views over the beach for breakfast but they get packed so you want to go really early or for a late breakfast to get a table.
