What's really great: |
Most of the people coming up here for the views simply park themselves on a terrace or prop themselves up in bed at dawn. However, if you want an even better view than the one from your lodge, hike an hour from Nagarkot to the viewing tower that can be seen to the south. From this tower, you can even see Mount Everest, which isn't visible from the lodges at Nagarkot. While the top activity at Nagarkot is sitting back and gazing at the long wall of snow-covered peaks that stretches off into the distance, this is also a great place to get an idea of what trekking is all about. Several long day hikes are possible from Nagarkot, and destinations include Bhaktapur and the temple complexes such as Sankhu, Changu Narayan, and Vajra Jogini. These hikes can be done as part of your return trip to Kathmandu, as round-trip hikes (though with arduous climbs back up to Nagarkot), or as one-way hikes utilizing buses or a taxi for the return trip to Nagarkot.
