The Enchanted Highway is 32 miles of road that is adorned with the world's larget metal sculptures. Each piece is created by artist Gary Greff and features many creative sights. From the enormous flock of geese to the towering image of Teddy Roosevelt on horseback, this stretch of highway is a must see. While driving along lush green fields, one will see giant deer leaping across the plains about to bounce across the road. Also, the gigantic grasshoppers that make any human contemplate what might really happen if insects ever grew to be this large are a bit frightening. Not to worry, soon after, one stumbles upon a happy family gathered together while the son enjoys a lollipop. There is also a few large pheasants farther on down the road that are sure to make anyone smile. This is the perfect destination for anyone with a passion for roadside attractions.

Favourite spots: |
Take a moment to enjoy your favorite creation by bringing along a bottle of wine and a bite to eat. Picnic tables are offered at each stop, along with a brief description of the piece. It is like enjoying an outdoor art museum. There is also a gift shop to purchase memorabilia in Regent. Be sure to stop by, since Gary depends solely on this income to help fund his projects.

|
What's really great: |
The contrast of artistic sculptures against the blue skies and rolling hills of North Dakota. Also, the simple beauty of discovering an enchanted highway in the middle of the United States.

|
Sights: |
The gift shop in Regent is filled with memorabilia. Be sure to stop by since Gary relies solely on this income to help fund his metal projects.

|
Other recommendations: |
There is not much else to see out in the hills of North Dakota, but this highway alone is worth the trip.

I like this kind of stuff (special locations), Your report makes us wanna go there. Some may say glitch but I say unique modern cultural sculpture and a nice tip for anyone in the area. Sorry only ***, but thats the average of * for city discription and ***** for pictures and originality. My Berlin "Buddy-Bear" pictures didnt get a good rating either. I suppose only those that have seen such stuff like us appreciate handcraft and art of people around the world, not only natural scenery. Also see my "African Junkshop" picture - art and usefull things made from junk. More please! |
