My favorite island of the 7,100+ islands in the Philippines is Siquijor. I've been two the Philippines 6 times and to Siquijor each of my last 3 visits. Although not accesible by air, it is well worth the time and effort once you reach the island
|
Many local legends and folklore talks of the mysterious island of Siquijor and that it is inhabited by witches who are only two happy to cast a spell on visitors who speak poorly of their island. While I don't think that is the case, I would be hard pressed to find any visitor who could find anything bad to say about the beautiful island. From the beautiful waterfalls, beaches and caves, to the charming and hospitable locals their is nothing but wonderful memories to those who visit this enchanting island.

Favourite spots: |
My favorite place to stay is the Coco Grove Beach resort. The accomodations are first class, the prices are reasonable and the beautiful beach is fantastic. They have two pools, a full service restaraunt, friendly staff and you can rent motorbikes for a nominal fee which is an excellent way to see the island.

What's really great: |
Cambugahay waterfall near Lazi. Very few tourist and a very secluded and beautiful place to spend some time cooling off in the clear cool waters and the lush tropical jungle.

Sharp Ceiling in Cantabon Cave
 |
 |
Cambugahay waterfall near Lazi and Cantabon Cave are most see natural wonders. If you go to the cave there are no lights, no walkways, and it's a bit of a squeeze getting into the small opening. Once inside the ceiling opens up and you journey through an underground river and beautiful stalagmites. A word of caution- do take a guide and some decent hiking shoes that can take water and grime- the guides will keep you safe and the shoes will keep you from slipping.

Accommodations: |
Coco Grove Beach resort
Tubod, San Juan, Siquijor
(035) 481-5006
The cottages have tile floors, hot showers and the landscaping is beatiful. You'll love the pools overlooking the ocean and for those who enjoy snorkeling and diving their is a dive shop at the resort. The staff are friendly and willing to help make your stay in Siquijor memorable.

|
Other recommendations: |
The beaches of Siquijor are pristine, the water clear and the sea life abundant even near the beach you can see multi-color star fish, sea urchins, and some coral. A good location to snorkel or scuba diving

Great report and destination and needs only a little bit of expansion to be up-classed to a 5*report. I like this and if I visited, what else can I do for 3 weeks or over a whole season? I wish the answer is "nothing" but one must describe "it" and the peace behind it.

This is terrific first report! I hope you take the time to expand on some areas - as a diver, I would love to read more about some of the local dive spots. |
