Here are a few good and - as a rule - inexpensive eating places in Ubud, Central Bali (Sept. 2009). Tourism has - alas - been booming in the past few years, so many new restaurants (some VERY showy and even posh) have opened.

Recommended eating places in Ubud (typical food, not too touristy):
- Bali Buddha, opposite Post Office; relat. expensive, health food (good bread at reasonable prices)
- Bumbu Bali (Indian food), opposite Palace
- Dewa Warung (cheap, good, simple food), lower end of Jl. Gautama
- Hans Snel (! ), romantic atmosphere, beautiful setting, relat. expensive, Jl. Kajeng. Also nice, though not cheap, accomodation
- Padang restaurant beyond Highway Internetet, right-hand side on Main Street (in fact there are two of 'em, the one further away is better); cheap, excellent and spicy food
- Murni, at Campuan bridge, phantastic location, go to lowermost floor!
- River View, Jl. Raya, diagonally across Casa Luna next to jap. restaurant (good place, too!); picturesque setting (huts), cheap
- Rumah Roda (!! – and cheap), upper Jl. Kajeng. right-hand side; good for sun-setting views. Bebek betutu, buffet
- In Jl. Kajeng: more small, unpretentious restaurants
- Warung Wahyu, Monkey F. road, far side of sports ground (!! – and inexpensive)
-Nasi Campur and other snacks opposite Roda Internet Cafe, Jl. Bisma
- Martabak stand, evenings only, Jl. Raya, shortly after Highway Internet Cafe, left-hand side; cheap, tasty!
- Fish sate/soup stand, evenings only, Jl. Raya, near (and same side as) Martabak Stand; cheap, tasty, SPICY!
- ... and many more!

Favourite spots: |
Rumah Roda because of the sunset view and the excellent but cheap buffet. Warung Wahyu because of the friendly atmosphere and the great food. TamaS because of the unusual, imaginative, excellent dishes.

What's really great: |
Ubud in general is a fantastic place with lots of landscape, museums, restaurants, cultural events and affordable accomodation. And it's a central starting point for trips to all other regions in Bali. Due to the heavy influx of tourists and the ever increasing tourism development activities it has of late been losing much of its charm. Still worthwhile seeing, especially for first-time visitors.

Accommodations: |
Jl. Bisma: Puri Bayu, Pondok Indah, Hibiscus II and many more. Rice field, yet close to town centre. Unfortunately ongoing building acitivities, severely spoiling the natural beauty of the area.

That's really good info. Do you think most addresses are still operating in 2007? |
