Winona is in southern Minnesota right on the Mississippi River. It is a small town with two universities and a lot of old people! Truly, if you ever see Grumpy Old Men, it is the same thing (filmed just north of Winona). Everything revolves around fishing and what ailments someone has, but it is a nice, simple area and has a wonderful feel to it.

There are some nice easy hiking trails on the outskirts of town. They lead to a beautiful view of the valley and the Mississippi. Also nice to drive to the other side of the river which takes you into Wisconsin. A nice park right across the bridge.

| What's really great: |
|
How simple everything is, is what I liked about the area. You feel like you are still in the 1950's where everybody knows your name.

| Nightlife: |
|
No real clubs that I know of, but I am sure there are one or two seeing as if there are two universities here.
|

| Hangouts: |
|
Boob's Beer! This is used to be a popular beer in this area, but now down to just one pub. Worthwhile checking it out. Lots of pubs around the area.
|

| Other recommendations: |
|
While I don't know much about the fishing in this area, it is said to be among the best in the midwest.
