Jun 01, 2009 02:00 PM Bahamian cuisine in nassau

When visiting Nassau, skip the usual touristy stuff and take a cab to "Fish Fry." It is actually called Arawak Cay, but the locals call it Fish Fry. When you get there you will find several shack-looking restaurants. At this point you might want to leave, but don't. My recommendation is a place called "Oh Andros." Many locals say it's the best in Fish Fry, and I must tell you, I had some of the tastiest, freshest seafood I have ever had. My wife had the fried groiuper, I had the grouper and conch. For twenty bucks I had a plate filled with delicious seafood, homemade macaroni, potato salad, and peas n rice (what we would call beans and rice). Washed it down with a Kalik beer, I mean WOW!!! It came out of the water this morning and your eating it two hours later. If you're a bit more adventurous, have a conch salad, which is so fresh, there is a guy in a little booth chopping it up right in front of you. Cab ride is $4 pp each way, and at least you'll get a true taste of Bahamian food with time left over to venture out into Bay Street.

Plus, the people are so much friendlier there than on Bay Street. I'll go back to Nassau just for another plate!!!
