Dec 28, 2004 07:00 PM Getting ready to leave soon
A quick entry, just to update that we are doing the last few days worth of work on Vahana, and hope to be southbound by this weekend.
More information once we have moved out of New Bern.

Dec 13, 2004 07:00 PM On the move
We have moved south - but not in the usual manner for boaters. The weather in the North Atlantic can be unforgiving in the winter, and we hadn't sailed Vahana all summer, due to our working on her till late in September. Still, the snow was beginning to fall in Maine and we needed to follow the warm weather. So, on December 3rd, we loaded her onto a trailer with Leroy at the wheel - and began our car journey, to coincide with meeting the boat in New Bern, North Carolina........on Wednesday, December 8th.
We've been in New Bern almost a week, and the commissioning on the sailboat is going well. Last night and tonight have been very cold, with temperatures in the 20's........but we are still living aboard, and looking ahead. We will re-step the mast and have her re-launched sometime later this week. Then, a few more days in the water in New Bern, and then we shall head south.....on our way to Florida.
We will begin to go down the ICW (Intra-Coastal Waterway) to start with - and then probably go off-shore if the weather permits, so we can get to Florida and the warmer climes fast !!!
More about our travels as time permits - the days are pretty well filled with work while the sun is out - it's only when it gets dark that there is time to do this sort of thing.
Please stop by and leave us a message, so we can keep in touch.
