Jan 22, 2010 07:00 PM Today, is 2 years on GLOBOsapiens.net for me!

Today, is 2 years on GLOBOsapiens.net for me! But it feels as if I had been a little longer than that. I have noted that the activity on our travellers' community fluctuates a lot. Recently, there has been only a handful of members contributing to the site, and considering that there are currently over 27,000 members worldwide, there should be a little more action here.

Oh, well. I hope there will be more goodies as I reach my third anniversary next year... :) And I will try to contribute more as well.

For now, it has been 170 travel reports, over 300 travel tips, 77 photo albums, 170 destination entries in the travel guide... and 3,500 photographs...

Jan 21, 2010 07:00 PM Caribbean Fortnight - Antigua, Aruba... Barbados

Caribbean Fortnight - Antigua, Aruba... Barbados I have now slightly updated the records on Antigua and Aruba by uploading some more photographs and travel tips, including accommodation, restaurants, pubs, clubs, museums and travel agents. I am now on Barbados, for which... apart from a short travel report, I had not uploaded anything, not even a single photograph. It is now going to change...

I hope more Globies will join the Caribbean Fortnight on Globo! initiative and we can enrich our website regarding this fascinating part of our world.

Jan 20, 2010 07:00 PM Caribbean Fortnight on Globo! Appeal.

Caribbean Fortnight on Globo! Appeal. Hello Globies!

With a view to support (at least mentally) the Haitian people, I am announcing the Caribbean Fortnight on Globo.

If you have photographs or travel stories or travel tips or would like to introduce a place, please give them!

I have been fortunate to travel to the islands on three occasions in the noughties. However, I have never been able to venture to Hispaniola. And I am starting to review what I shared with you all on Globo. I am going to do it alphabetically. Starting with Antigua.

Jan 16, 2010 07:00 PM London (GB) - Disappearing Canary Wharf Skyline

London (GB) - Disappearing Canary Wharf Skyline As I was standing at the Greenland pier, a boat landing for the riverbus of London, I watched the glittering skyline of Canary Wharf. It is slowly disappearing in its current form. Two massive towers are being built at the riverfront to host of the world's largest banks, and a few more towers inside the Canary Wharf estate are also either already being built or soon going to commence rising.

Certain reports and graphic exist that show the Canary Wharf skyline changed beyond recognition already at the end of 2010. I am not sure this is going to be like that, but at least many cranes should appear...

By the time of London 2012 Olympic Games, for which graphics also exist, the skyline will most definitely be different.

Dec 30, 2009 07:00 PM Happy New Year, Globies!

Happy New Year, Globies! Very Happy New Year, everyone!

May your 2010 be full of exciting travel, seeing new places, meeting new people, experiencing exotic cultures, trying foods you would never think existed, drinking beverages invented in places, which you cannot easily spot on the map, waking up with a feeling that it is so worth playing a leading role on this largest stage ever - the world. ;)

And happiness, and baggage never lost, and planes never late, and buses and train always on time, and boats pleasantly rocking...

Dec 23, 2009 07:00 PM Merry Christmas Everyone!

Merry Christmas Everyone! Ho! Ho! Ho!

Anyone, who celebrates Christmas... Happy Christmas!

All the best (good health and joy, jolly good candle-lit atmosphere with friends and family, yummy food and plenty of it, great memories and best reflections, happiness and spontaneous laughter) and everything what you would wish yourselves.

Warmest winterly greetings!

Dec 13, 2009 07:00 PM Ustka (PL) - snowing

Ustka (PL) - snowing A few flurries fell from the sky over night, putting a white blanket on the streets. It is thin, very thin, so it will be gone within hours. I am not very keen on snow in the urban areas. It ruins the infrastructure and footwear, ;) So, I do not mind that it is going to disappear.

I am taking it easy today. Tomorrow I am leaving home, so just chilling and taking it easy. Just a small stroll in town, and I noticed that the authorities managed to scrap some money for modest Christmas lights...

Dec 12, 2009 07:00 PM Slupsk (PL) - tea time

Slupsk (PL) - tea time By the watermill and the castle, there is this fabulous teahouse. It serves over a hundred of different types of teas; black ones, green ones, white ones, fragrant ones, fruit ones, infusions, Japanese, Chinese, India, Srilankan... and great pies and cakes.

And there is another, new teahouse in town, which also serves different coffees - the Rokoko. I tried coffee and I was a little disappointed. Sludge in a large cup was not what I wanted, so I treated myself to a shot of Baileys... The place auctions its stylish furniture, I was told - although I did not witness that.

Dec 11, 2009 07:00 PM Slupsk (PL) - shopping time

Slupsk (PL) - shopping time Slupsk, about which I think I ought to write a report one day, is in the process of reinventing itself somehow. For now, it seems that after some face-lifting of certain facades, the city focused its efforts to build impressive shopping centres. Well, at least one great one and a few less interesting ones, haha.

I browse for a LCD TV or a computer monitor... There is much less choice than in London, but who would lug a telly a few hundred miles across the continent?

In the evening, I will be partying at my friends'. It will be great to see their baby Alan again.

Dec 10, 2009 07:00 PM Ustka (PL) - a winter sun and breeze

Ustka (PL) - a winter sun and breeze I made an appointment with one of my friends to go for our favourite pizza. I am always thinking about this pizza. I think it might have been served in that restaurant (it changed names a few times) for over 30 years. And amazingly, they managed to keep the taste consistent throughout all those years. It comes in two sizes, much larger ones than the original one back in the 20th century. We call it Ustka-style pizza, but its official name is different - the best way to order that one is to say 'traditional pizza, please'.

Weather is even better than yesterday, with more sunshine and lighter breeze. I think there might be more people in the streets today, perhaps just preparing for the weekend.
