Welcome to my travel log! You will find here a lot more than in the travel reports, stripped from political correctness. Enjoy!
Apr 23, 2009 02:00 PM Tomorrow, if all goes well, I will be at Lake Como again!
TGI Friday! Long time coming but, if all goes well, I should be landing at Lago di Como, Lombardia, Italy. I am getting mixed weather forecasts, particularly for Saturday. Some say it will be sunny with some clouds, but some predict rain. Sunday does not look too promising with rain forecast in the majority of meteorological services. This obviously is not too good, as I'd like to browse through the lakeside villages a little more, take plenty of pictures, relax in the pavement cafes, sip coffees, eat ice-cream, drink Martinis. Rain or very cloudy weather will most certainly block the views of the Alps, too. And that is a real shame. And what about the sunset pictures I was planning to take for Petra? Hmm... this one is going to be tricky. I was also thinking of writing a couple of reports about the villages at the lake, but if weather is going to be bad, I am not sure how much motivation I will have. I think my muse does not like rainy weather, unless it is in Africa at night.

Apr 22, 2009 02:00 PM Happy St. George's Day!
Today is the national day of England. Sadly, it is not a public holiday (in contrast to St. Patrick's Day in Ireland) and for years it had been played down not to open a can of nationalistic worms. But this year, the authorities in England decided that the governmental buildings should fly the English flag if they have a spare post. The person of St. George has been controversial... (look him up!) and this had not helped to celebrate this national day. In London, and I think elsewhere in England (not in the entire UK!) there will be celebrations, festivals, etc. In fact, not just today, but for the entire week and mainly on the weekend. However, for the weekend I will be at Lake Como, so would not be able to report what's happening.

Apr 21, 2009 02:00 PM Happy Earth Day! Planted a tree?
Today, on the Earth Day, weather in London was again fantastic! There are no words! Obviously many thought it was summer, and, having learnt from the past, it might have just been the closest to the summer, Britain will have this year. Who knows... Anyway, the temperature must have climbed above 20C and there was so much sunshine in the city that people without shades struggled badly. It was very hard to concentrate in the office. But I managed to move one of my meetings into outdoors, sitting in a pub by the river catching the sunrays!
I received a few tweets from National Geographic and Larry King of CNN about the Earth Day. Larry had lunch with the former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair and many people wondered if the former Labour Party leader was making any time to plant a tree today. I think it is a great idea about the Earth Day and planting the trees. Apparently, each year swathes of forest of the size greater than South Carolina disappear from the face of the planet. Can someone calculate how long it would take for the forest to disappear completely? Uh, and also coral reefs are home to more than 1/4 of all species of plant and animals of the Earth's oceans. How about that?

Apr 17, 2009 02:00 PM Glorious day in London
I got up rather late, and took a long bath - which I normally do not do. I joined the new phenomenon twitter a few weeks ago, but only recently I started using it, when I found that Demi Moore's toyboy husband was in the race with CNN to get 1,000,000 followers. The winner was to donate 10,000 mosquito nets to malarianomore.org. The loser was to donate 1,000. Twittering is a totally new experience to me and I have to say that it is rather exciting. It feels very strange to be receiving short messages (up to 140 characters) in real time directly from Oprah Winfrey, Demi Moore, Larry King, P. Diddy or Ellen de Generes, or other celebrities. After twittering with them, I decided to have a look outside. They day was really nice. The sun was shining and it definitely felt like spring. The sun was setting while the tidal Thames was almost full. London can really be quite lovely on nice weather, indeed.

Apr 10, 2009 02:00 PM Easter Saturday in Brighton
I took my friend to Brighton, to have a look at an English beach, which had been attracting the English folk for decades. It was a great disappointment. Weather could not be worse, uh uh - wait a second, it could actually - it could have rained heavily, not just slightly, and instead of the sand, there were obviously pebbles, and the fish with the chips had a terrible batter on it! I had no idea that my friend did not like batter...
We sat at one of the bars with tables and benches on the beach and relaxed a bit. Then, we went to the pier - a mandatory point in a Brighton itinerary, of course. But it started to rain and it was not that a joy at all.
Then we quickly ran pass by the Royal Pavilion with grey, heavy clouds hanging just above it, took a couple of pictures and then hang out a little in the narrow streets nearby. That was it.

Apr 02, 2009 02:00 PM Sunsets collection album in the making
Hi there. My first 'special themes' album is now in the making. Sunsets. Petra inspired me to make one. For now, it is just a collection of sunsets, which I had already submitted to Globo. There will be more coming. Just bear with me while I browse through my photo libraries and select some nice sunset shots.
Uh, I have also ideas for other themes, too.

Apr 01, 2009 02:00 PM Ibo album is now complete
My photo album is now complete. It is a collection of 44 shots from my short visit to the island. It was great adventure to visit the place. There was plenty of evidence that the island once was a wonderful spot, complete with beautiful mansions, paved promenades along the beaches... The population on the island is very relaxed and extremely friendly. There is not much to do there, but the climate is wonderful and if you are a bird watcher, you will be in heaven. I hope you will enjoy taking a journey through the slideshow...

Mar 31, 2009 02:00 PM Montenegro, I am finally coming in June this year!
This is not the April's Fool joke. I browsed a little through flight options to Montenegro, which I had wanted to visit for a number of years, and found convenient links to Dubrovnik, Croatia, only about 20 minutes drive from Herceg Novi, Montenegro, my first stop - according to my provisional itinerary. Other places in the plan include Perast, Kotor, Sveti Stefan (pictured here), and Budva. If time allows, I'd like to see the Ostrog Monastery and spend a few hours in Dubrovnik just before the flight back to London. For now, I am finding rather hard to book good accommodation. Budva appears to be the easiest, but I am becoming increasingly nervous about Herceg Novi. I will be landing late and I do not fancy looking for a place to sleep during the hours of darkness. And I am not sure that going all the way from Dubrovnik to Budva is such a good option. It looks really far...

Mar 30, 2009 02:00 PM Finally decided what to do with May Day Bank Holiday
I have been thinking about this for a long, long time, and could not make up my mind. The options were to go to Cyprus, Turkey, Montenegro, Tunisia or even Ghana and Brazil. I was not too keen on spending too much money on travel or related expenses, so Brazil, Ghana and Tunisia had to be ruled out. Also I had always wanted to spend at least a week in Brazil or Tunisia on my first visit to the countries. Flights to Cyprus have been ridiculously expensive for that weekend, and why would spend over £250 on a flight three hours away for a three day visit? Out! At least for now. And then, my friend from Belgium called me last weekend, whom I had not seen for a couple of years. So, I thought it might be fun to go down to Belgium and see a few places there, again. I will be based in Ghent, but I think I would venture somewhere else, where I have not been yet. Eurostar ticket was reasonable! So there it is. Belgium, I am coming again - for the 400th time, I think.

Mar 14, 2009 07:00 PM One million visitors to Krys's Globo page!
One million visitors! This is a nice milestone, I have to admit. And I am very pleased! I have been on Globosapiens for 417 days only, I think. That makes it on average about 2,400 visitors a day or 100 visitors an hour. Although I noticed that recently my site was being visited even more often. Well, that is some audience! My private website has been visited by just over 2,400 visitors in the last two years! Well, it has a different purpose, though.
Anyway, I believe Globosapiens is for sharing and I am glad that I have shared my travel stories, logs, photos, albums and tips with so many people. I know that not everyone is looking through everything, but 1,000,000 makes me feel good about me :) Yeah.
I wanted to capture the moment when the number turned ‘1,000,000’ to snap the screen, but it was happening in the middle of the night, I just could not wait until 3 a.m. or something. So now, I will be counting days until the next million.
