Welcome to my travel log! You will find here a lot more than in the travel reports, stripped from political correctness. Enjoy!
Jan 22, 2009 07:00 PM One year on GLOBOsapiens.net
Yes, it has been one year for me on GLOBO exactly. Although I did not start contributing on earnest from the very first day, I hope I managed to upload a good number of things, including reports, photos and tips. During this time, I managed to make a few interesting online friends and attracted somewhat loyal audience. Also, I think I managed to make only one enemy...
Anyway, for the next year, I have plans to catch up with some more travel reporting (I currently have 14 reports in the making), complete my travel log subsequently (there are few African and Asian trips, which I would like to talk about), and upload a few more pictures. There are still about 25 countries from which I have not submitted a single photograph, including 9 countries from my beloved Africa! Hopefully, I will be able to embark on a few interesting trips as well in 2009, to places I have not yet seen. Fingers crossed!
So far, I enjoyed GLOBO. Yeah!

Jan 19, 2009 07:00 PM A few pictures from Africa - for President Obama
I am sorry if I posted so many photos in a day, but as I was watching the inauguration of Barack H. Obama as the 44th President of the United States of North America, I felt this special and historic moment. So, I dug a little into my archive of travel photographs and realised that there are still a number of African countries, from which I have not yet posted any pictures.
This wave is from Benin, a rather unique country in Africa with exemplary democracy. So proudly placed in West Africa, where democracy has not yet established itself firmly.

Jan 16, 2009 07:00 PM Woolwich (GB) - another link with the centre open
Woolwich is celebrating the extension of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) all the way from the London City Airport, under the Thames, to Woolwich's Market. The station is nothing special, but the extension of the DLR, London's driverless trains, means that the trips from/to the suburb to/from central London have been dramatically cut. Now, Woolwich has boat services, ferry services, suburban trains and the DLR. This means that the Royal Arsenal and the Artillery Museum are now more accessible than ever. There is not much to see in Woolwich apart from the superb museum, though but the proximity of the Thames Gateway makes it worth the ride.

Jan 15, 2009 07:00 PM London (GB) - on good weather
When the sun shines in London, it is great. The best way to see it is from the river. And with Thames Clippers offering a regular service, as if a river bus, it could not be easier just to hop on a boat and see how the capital looks. One of the most dramatic sights is the Thames Barrier, a ingenious mechanism designed to prevent tidal flooding of London. And that it looks good, or really good actually, is definitely a bonus. I hopped on one of the boats and snapped a few photos. There is one for you all.

Jan 14, 2009 07:00 PM Still a few more photos to come
I know that I need to pace myself, but there are still about 30 countries, from which I would like to share some photographs. This is part of the effort to complete my travel website on Globo. I would like to create a few more albums as well, depending how many photos I have for each country or location.
The map above illustrates the countries from which I already have photos and plan to post them. But there might be more in due course.
It will probably take me a few months. Hopefully before my next big trip in the summer. In the meantime, I have few travel plans, but I will report regularly, including reports, travel logs, tips, photos and, if possible, guides.

Jan 04, 2009 07:00 PM Berlin (DE) - a birthday away from home
Again, almost as if it was a tradition now, I spent my birthday away from home. A year before it was in the capital of Eritrea, Asmara. This year, it was the capital of Germany. Well, not exactly. I was travelling home on that day. So, I guess it was only partially compliant with the 'tradition'. It was a very relaxing day. I did nothing. My cousin had to go to work and I stayed at home, sleeping late, very late! And watching TV. The German daytime television shows some very old Disney full feature films, which can be a joy to watch. Particularly, when they show them one by one, with no break. They do not even let all the credits to run. A few minutes before the end of the previous one, they announce what is going to be shown next and then as soon as the film ends, they start another.
It was really very cold. The city buses did not run to their timetable, which gave me a little of the adrenaline rush. But I was at the airport on time. My flight was late. But when it landed, it took me just under an hour to get home from the time the aircraft touched down. I was lucky with the trains, tubes and buses. I do not think this has ever happened to me. I considered it to be my birthday present.

Jan 03, 2009 07:00 PM Berlin (DE) - relaxing before the birthday
The party finished late, at about 4am, but as late, as it sometimes can do when I am partying in Germany's main town (7am). But I left me tired, and the only thing I could do on that day was to veg in the front of the telly watching wonderfully dubbed films. The Germans are most definitely the super masters in dubbing. The voices are matched greatly to the original and the lip syncing is near perfect. And for a foreign language like that, this is a giant task requiring great skills.
And again even more snow fell and it got colder and colder. Kids dragged their parents for some sledge dragging and plentiful sunshine created a jolly nice winter Sunday. I had to eventually go outside to check the timing for the city buses so I could get to the airport on time and purchase my ticket.

Jan 02, 2009 07:00 PM Berlin (DE) - More visiting
Again, even more snow fell and temperatures started to dropping lower and lower. It was not very pleasant outside, but with relatively clear skies, it would have been a waste of time just hiding indoors. Funny was to notice for the first time that the head of Lenin was still hanging on the facade of the old Soviet embassy in the side street, just off Unten den Linden street.
It was also time for a party reprise. I went to the same club, where I spend the Silvester and was surprised to see so many familiar faces. My cousin saw even more.

Jan 01, 2009 07:00 PM Berlin (DE) - Lazying in the shopping centres
Even more snow fell on the second day of the year. Shops re-opened for trading, so it was time to visit some of them to see if there were any very special offers. Not for me, with the £ on par the € I could not justify spending any money on clothing, etc while London had better offers for much less.
But it was great to see some of the decorations and drink the mulled wine from the countless wooden booths dotted around the city. It cost €2 for a small paper cup, but it was yummy and a great warming up drink in this cold, cold weather.

Dec 31, 2008 07:00 PM Berlin (DE) - the New Year
Everything was closed on the New Year day in Berlin. People would sleep in and then just relax, re-charging their energy after the Silvester parties. It was really cold that day, and a little snow fell. The only thing to do was to take a walk in the city, visiting the well known sights of Germany's capital city.
New Year's resolution? Hmm... not this year, I'm afraid.
