I love skiing and steeper better! And the best is off the usual ski runs.
We went skiing with my brother to Taos for the above reason. Taos shoots accessible by hiking the ridge are great.
Taos allows only skiers (no snowborders). It is a relatively small ski area, but the snow and skiing is really rewarding. They have also good restaurants available on the slope.
It is one of my favorite places to ski and definitevely the best in New Mexico. Other ski areas in New Mexico are Santa Fe - relatively small and crowded on weekends, Sandia - a big bunny hill, Pajarito - small ski area in Los Alamos, nice, my second favorite after Taos. Red River and Angel Fire - close to Taos.

It is reckless. If you survive the first few hours than you get used to it. I was thinking initially to turn around and go back to US, but at the end I was happy that I did drive from El Paso to Chihuahua and Creel.
The recommendation is not to drive after dark. I did not follow that. I was driving well after dark on a small road in the mountains.
Speeding is usual well pass the speed limit. Lights - I guess whatever light works that is on. Hope that cows and other animals are not on the road.
Red lights - I was tired and ran a red light in a small town, but luckily my car was bigger, so I did not get hit.
I felt save and I was the only female driver in the mountains! People were very friendly and tried to help me with directions.
I would drive to Mexico again!
