Nov 02, 2005 07:00 PMAwe inspiring Athens
After a first glimpse at the Acropolis from the taxi Tuesday night, spending most of yesterday afternoon wandering around the site and tonight taking photos from the top of Filopapou Hill, I can honestly say it's absolutely awe inspiring and even more incredible when you're standing in it's shadow.
Yes folks even I wandered about in a temporary silence!!
We're enjoying the sites and delights of Athens, but to be honest we've been taking it pretty easy and just sort of recovering from the run up to our move.
So far vacation is agreeing with us immensely as are the afternoon naps and the late dinners mediterranean style. As always I'm on the search for delicious nosh and Athens has not disappointed, greek yogurt and honey for breakfast is a treat and stuffed vine leaves make a superb late night snack.
Today we wandered around the National Archaeological Museum to see the Mycenean gold treasures and the marble Koures, through the Central Market and to see the Little Metropolis a very old church.
Tomorrow we're going to spend some time in the remains of the temple of Zeus and a lot more wandering around old Athens then it's off to the airport for our flight to Cairo and the first bit of our "Grand African Adventure".
Don't worry Moms we're perfectly healthy and happy!!!
