Jan 01, 1970 12:00 AM Dubrovnik in colors

Today when I in the early morning I went from my inside vabin out to the deck I found that our ship is turning in the narrow bay just near the high, modern bridge. We are in Croatia! Port of Dubrovnik is located not in front of the old Dubrovnik coty walls but some 4 kms away in the narrow picturesque bay. Cruise linestry to milk down their passengers: they offer here shuttle bus to yhe old town for 14 euro round trip. As usual I did it by foot. The day was lovely with temperature 28 deg. Celsius.
I have been here as a student, in the time of black and white photography... Now I saw Dubrovnik in colors. The entry to the pld coty is free, but if you want to walk around on the top of city walls you will pay hefty 250 kina. One euro is worth more then 7 kuna. The old streets are full of tourists. The poor churches are open for visitors. It is nice and atmospheric place! Back in the new city I started a climb up the hill for the best view. Many wonderful, flourishing rhododendrons along the stoney stairs. The view from the little terrace was nice, but from the upper station of the mew calbeway is probably even better

Jan 01, 1970 12:00 AM A lady from Santa Catarina...

Did you heard about Servas? This is old organization of the open doors, but more ambitious than Couchsurfing.
As a member of Servas since 1989 I recently hosted Lilian - charming Brazilian lady, originally from Santa Catarina in the Southern Brazil, now living in Europe. I have been to Santa Catarina state few years ago so we had a lot subjects to talk about...
Lilian is open - minded person, she had great languages skills, speaking even Japaneese. Imagine that she came to Poland to study Polish! And we were peaking Polish in my Wojtkówka! Great person, great time!

Jan 01, 1970 12:00 AM Ketchikan - the capital of salmon

What a lovely, sunny weather! In the morning we were sailing through the Great Inside Passage - between small abd big islands, watching playing little orcas and enjoying the views.
In the afternoon we docked in Ward Cove - just 7iles from the historic port of Ketchikan - ned the wirld capital pf salmon. But Ketchikan was also important during the Gold Rush Era. Now the township has also industrial face as an important transport hub for Alaska. I walked again old, colorful part of the city with many shops and bars. Sunny weather allows to take good pictures. Tomorrow we will have full day at sea and after tomorrow I will land in Vancouver fory flight to Europe. This fantastic journey is coming to the end!

Jan 01, 1970 12:00 AM Merry Christmas dear Friends!

Dear Friends worldwide.... Merry Christmast and Happy, peaceful and full of interesting travels New Year 2023!
I decided to fly to look for white Christmas to Oslo, to my dearest son Adam and his family living there... It is only 1,5 hour direct flight to get there. In Gdansk it is grey with temperatires 5-6 deg Celsius. I hope to find the snow in Norway! Enjoy your Christmas time!

Jan 01, 1970 12:00 AM To South America again!

I just got back from the Caribbean and I'm already flying back to the warmth! November in Poland is a sad month: rains, cold and short days. And the sun will shine in Argentina and Brazil. It will be a sentimental journey. In 1984, 39 years ago, I made my first trip to South America. I wrote about it here. Now I'm going again to Argentina and Brazil to visit old, well known places and once again look at Iguazu - in my opinion the most beautiful waterfall in the world. Please keep your fingers crossed!

Jan 01, 1970 12:00 AM Cultural Curitiba

The capital of Brazilian Parana state shone like a jewel within the other prowince capitals. Well designeg, with great samples of architecture, well organized and havong interesting history and many green parks coulb be an ideal target for the tourists. I believe, it will be. Also because Curitiba lies on the level around 900 m above the sea and climate is more mild here.
I spent a sunny day strolling around Curitiba. They have also inexpensive tourist doubledecker bus starting fron 24-hours Street, but I always prefere to walk my way...

Jan 01, 1970 12:00 AM Warm evening in Abu Dhabi

In Georgia it was raining in the morning, but few hours later in Abu Dhabi the big, orange sun was welcoming us... For two travellers it is worth to prebook a taxi from the airport to the hotel - it will be like 15 USD per head to door of your hotel. We checked in and then took a 5-kilometers walk along the main First Zayed Street, ending on the Cornish. Memories... Nicely illuminated wall of the skyscrapes. Palm tree, pleasantly warm... Tomorrow we will board the ship!

Jan 01, 1970 12:00 AM African Uber - very good solution!

Shame on you NCL! Already at 6 am they were calling passengers to disembark the ship - it was still dark! I did not care, first I went to the self-service restaurant to take a solid breakfast, then I went to the exit on deck 4. Imagine that they control if the passenger paid his bill! I did, but I saw crying lady who has problem with her credit card - it is better to bring two - just in case!
Then on the pier it was shown how NOT to organize disembarkation process. We have to went out the port in the buses. Initially there was no bus. When it appeared a crowd of the passengers with their all luggage taken on the pier.... No information... They took us to the distant cruise terminal. And disloaded. My God!
So what I am doing here? Well, the organization on NCL is poor, but the route of this cruise was unique... It is over... I conected to the wifi in Victoria Wharf shopping center and called Uber. The driver appeared soon. But before I was forced to give them my credit card number. 15 min driving to the pension on Salt River cost me 50 rands - like 3 dollars. After morning stress I have a chance to relax and make laundry. From the balcony I see old colonial houses. It is windy today. For tomorrow they announce 38 deg Celsius. Welcome to Souh Africa!

Jan 01, 1970 12:00 AM Memories of African penguins

It was only one week ago! South of Cape Town just near Simons Town there is little colony of the African penguins. This is a reserve and they charge 190 rands for entry. There are piers built over the sandy beach where these little creatures live. You are on the pier and they are below you... This is very good position to photograph them! The beach is full of pictureqque stone boulders ("BOULDERS BEACH"). Last expensive method to reach Simons Town is an electric train from Cape Town...
