Jun 21, 2022 08:00 PM Summer arrived to Wojtkówka!

Summer arrived to Wojtkówka! I had a hard time working in my garden last week, but it is all done now. My iris flowers and peonies are in blossom and now I am picking the strawberries. So I can invite my guests: the doors of Wojtkówka are open to all friends and travellers. I am waiting for you with my travel stories and fresh green lettuce!
You are welcome!

Jun 07, 2022 08:00 PM With Piotr & Grazyna

With Piotr & Grazyna Piotr is my old friend and outstanding Polish traveller. Some 40 years ago we met by coincidence in the hostel in provincional Tunisia... My overnight stay in Wroclaw was a great chance to meet him and his wife Grazyna again. Piotr picked me up from the Wroclaw airport and I was invited to their home. We were talking about our travels till late. Thanks a lot, dear friends! In the morning I took a train to Gdansk. Welcome home, one more interesting voyage is completed! Now it is a time to enjoy the summer in my Wojtkówka!

Jun 06, 2022 08:00 PM Back in Bari....

Back in Bari.... One week ago we started here our cruise. Hard to believe it was only one week because in the meantime we saw so many places. They allowed me to stay on the ship only to 11 am. Yhe temperature was 28 deg when, after second breakfast I eas walking in the full sun to the city bus stop located just nearby the blue terminal building. Nobody on the ship will tell you that: city bus no.50 goes from here to the railway station
The driver sells 1euro tickets... I jumped on the bus departing at 11.12 and changed bus for no 16 going to the airport.
So it cost me 2 euro. Cruise line charged 9 euro to the center of Bari. The airport terminal is small but modern. On the 3rd floor (up from the daparture hall) there is enough space to wait few hours for the flight...
Departure on time. Wizz attendents at the gate do not care about the size of the baggage but they require you to wear the mask! It willbe only 1 h 40 min flight to Wroclaw.

Jun 05, 2022 08:00 PM Split, 31 degrees Celsius....

Split, 31 degrees Celsius.... I have been here before, but Split in Croatia is one of those places which are worth to see again after years, especially when the view from the deck 14 of our ship gives you absolutely new perspective! Lia - lovely Philippine lady from the crew gave me two portion of the juice (to put them into the bottle and take it ashore... Then I started the walk in the strong sun to the old. Walled city - called often Diokletian Palace... Then I walked the lovely coastal boulevard full of flowers and lined by palms. I met there little Maria from Georgia dreaming about travel to America by ship... The final accent was climcing to the viewpoint in Marjan park. This park covers the hihh on the western side of the bay. It offers great, panoramic view of Split. Just see the picture... It is really great place!

Jun 04, 2022 08:00 PM Ancona, no sun but still 29 deg...

Ancona, no sun but still 29 deg... When we were approaching Ancona in the morning first I saw high cliff and che churches on the hill nearby. Port of Ancona is big and ugly: the cruise shis dock in the cargo port surrounded by the piles of containers. The port authority provides free transport to the central Piazza Cavour. From there I started the climb to the cliff, expecting nice view. No... No sun today (but still 29 deg Celsius) so the sea is more grey than blue. On the cliff there is a path leading you to the old lighthouse and onward - to the cathedral. It was a nice walk with smelling rhododendrons around. At the cathedral's door there are two granite lions. Down in the town I found also nice squares, palaces andthe fountain of 4 horses (sorry, no water!)
Despite the ugly port Ancona is nice. But I did not have enough time to go by train to Loreto, where Polish war cemetery os located - the train timetable is reduced on Sundays!

Jun 03, 2022 08:00 PM Day in Venice...

Day in Venice... Cruise ships now are not allowed to dock in Venice so our ship docked in Trieste. I bought the railway ticket for 15 euro each way and after 2 hours I was already at Santa Lucia station in lovely Venice. Like 48 years ago I was crawling the canals, bridges and narrow, atmospheric alleys with a crowd of the tourists from all over the world, walking from the station to Plaza San Marco. The basilica is at the restoration but other monumental buildings are still imposing. The gondolas charge already 80 euro for half an hour sailing, 100 euro in the evening. I was here during the time of black and white photography. Now I had a chance to register everything in colors. Hot and humid but lovely day!

Jun 02, 2022 08:00 PM Sailing Adriatic Sea

Sailing Adriatic Sea Day at sea...We were sailing all day Adriatic in the North direction. Finally I had a time to make the laundry, to swim in the pool and to listen to the music... They say that our ship has capacity of 4500 pax but due to covid restrictions only 1300 passengers is sailing. No crowd.
I like this!

Jun 01, 2022 08:00 PM Dubrovnik in colors

Dubrovnik in colors Today when I in the early morning I went from my inside cabin out to the deck I found that our ship is turning in the narrow bay just near the high, modern bridge. We are in Croatia! Port of Dubrovnik is located not in front of the old Dubrovnik city walls but some 4 kms away in the narrow, picturesque bay. Cruise lines try to milk down their passengers: they offer here shuttle bus to the old town for 14 euro round trip. As usual I did it by foot. The day was lovely with temperature around 28 deg. Celsius.
I have been here as a student, in the time of black and white photography... Now I saw Dubrovnik in colors. The entry to the pld city is free, but if you want to walk around on the top of city walls you will pay hefty 250 kina. One euro is worth little more then 7 kuna. The old streets are full of tourists. The poor churches are open for visitors. It is nice and atmospheric place! Back in the new city I started a climb up the hill for the best view. There were many wonderful, flourishing rhododendrons along the stoney stairs. The view from the little terrace was nice, but from the upper station of the new calbeway is probably even better...

May 31, 2022 08:00 PM Corfu in the sun!

Corfu in the sun! When I was here before I experienced heavy rain and the police was closing thr roads. Today I have blue sky! The view of the island's capital is great even from the ship: with two castles and spires of the churches in the old town. They offer shuttle bus from the terminal to the old castle for 10 euro, but I preferred to walk, taking the pictures, meeting the people. Polite -Kalimera! is always appreciated. It is worth to pay 3 euro (UE seniors) for entry to the old castle and climb the top bastion for the great view! Ols city is full of flowers and souvenir shops. After seeing the solid silver coffin of St Spiridion I took a long walk to Kanoni viewpoint. This place is like the icon of Corfu: you will see in the blue the little island and tiny white monastery. Wow! I returned to the ship only at 4 pm after some 14-km walk. Tired but happy...

May 30, 2022 08:00 PM Tested, screened, boarded...

Tested, screened, boarded... To protect the crew and passengers from covid the cruise lines still require the negative result of covid test when you boarding the ship. It could be cheap antigen test. In the morning in Bari I found the laboratory close to the raileay station where hey make it in just 20 minutes charging just 15 euro. It is worth to recommend: Laboratorio Analisi - Sant'Andrea. The day was hot and sunny when I was walking with my backpack to the cruise port. It is close to the old town - next to the ferries.
My MSC ship was bigger than I expected - imagine 17 decks and capacity max 4500 passengers... In the poor terminal on the jetty they screened the bags. Fortunately I survived with my tea/coffee maker which is often taken to deposit. Wow! It is my first time with MSC - they offer free pizza all over the day! Nice ship! Nice decor in the Zanzibar and Africana self-service restaurants. We are sailing at 6 pm, at 8 there willbe show in the theater and then dancing under the stars. Let's sail!
