Chinguetti - Mauritania What made Chinguetti famous in the area is the original arquitecture, building in the middle of nowhere with bricks was not typical at all, specially in the eleventh century when this charming city was built to host some of the most important libraries of that age in the occidental world and to be used as a caravanserai for the long camel caravanes that traveled through the desert carrying minerals and salt to inner lands like Mali, Algeria or Niger.
