IxChel Farm

Asta,
I just thought of something else - IxChel Farms is a holistic herbal farm in Belize, not too far from San Ignacio on Chaa Creek. There is a wonderful natural trail through the farm. It is facinating and well worth seeing if you in the area.

Some other options

Asta,
Cozumel is a terrific option - you catch a bus from the Airport and then take a ferry across from Playa Del Carmen. Playa Del Carmen itself is an option - it is much cheaper than Cancun proper. Another option for you is to go on the Gulf side of the Yucatan Pennisula. There are lovely beaches, much less crowded - Rio Largartos (has flamingos!) Sisal, Progreso, and further in, Campeche are quite nice and very inexpensive. Chichen-Itza is close by inland - it is a wonderful Mayan Ruin - quite famous for its astrology. Basically, the further you get from Cancun, the cheaper.

You can get around in English in Cancun and Cozumel. Also in Belize which was the former British Honduras until the late 80s. Spanish is needed for the places above and Guatemala. Spanish is spoken heavily in California, so I have used only language CDs to brush up.

Have a wonderful trip!
Eire
