Pulteney Bridge, view from the south side's by basia

It is a weir, designed to keep water levels even upstream and regulate the flow of the river. And it looks spectacular. The bridge does not look very nice from the other side, by the way. This one of only four bridges in the world with shops along the entire span of the bridge... basia - Dec, 13 2008 11:12am Jill, the Krys already to You answered, I will write what I found in the internet on the subject the bridge and his builders: Pulteney approached the brothers Robert and James Adam with his new town in mind, but Robert Adam then became involved in the design of the bridge. In his hands the simple construction envisaged by Pulteney became an elegant structure lined with shops. Adam had visited both Florence and Venice, where he would have seen the Ponte Vecchio and the Ponte di Rialto.
