About halfway down Chile's very long coastline, just there where the thousands of islands and arctic type climate starts is the small harbour of Puerto Montt. A very good base for exploring the southern Andes with is mountain lakes and volcanoes. It's also outgoing harbour for visitors to amazing historic Chiloe Island and others further south. Recommend: at least a 3-4 day stay when part of a South American itinerary, very pleasant cool climate after the tropical jungles! [edit text][editors]
