Pam and I stayed at the far north of these islands at the beginning of May 2002 for too short a time on the way back from the Norwegian Coastal Voyage. We stayed in a rorbu, [fishermen's hut] in the Svinøya Rorbuer complex. The rorbuer here are the genuine article - a number in the islands are purpose built imitations for tourism.
Svinøya is technically a separate island, reached by bridge, although it is part of the Lofoten capital of Svolvaer. There's a virtually resident whale - but he never showed for us. There are cod out to dry on huge 'racks' everywhere, as shown in some of the photos.
