Sir Titus Salt was one of the Victorian philanthropic entrepreneurs. [See destination guide to Shipley.] The textile mill was opened in 1853 and was converted by Jonathan Silver in the 1980s as a showcase for pictures and opera sets by David Hockney. There are also beautifully arranged shops, a reasonably priced diner and a fish restaurant. Entry is free.
