Mayans used a triatic formula in a lot of their building. Many, if not most, pyramids and temples had three structures with the Earth-Sky in the middle. Pyramids often had large elevated platforms about halfway up with a temple on either side of the topmost pyramid. This is one of those temples on the Monos platform.
