Many Mayan stelae depict a scene similar to this: Lord in full regalia standing on or over a captive. The captive, usually a Lord himself, is bound and in a crouched position. Also typical is the destruction on this stelae - Mayan warred between cities and city states. They would scar or break the face of the stelae and then topple it hoping that it wound shatter into pieces.
