Arrival at the Annah Rais Bidayuh Tribal Longhouse's by el2995

Kuching - Malaysia A traditional ethnic Bidayuh tribal longhouse at Kampong Annah Rais. The Bidayuhs, formerly known as the Land Dayaks during the era of British colonial rule, are the second largest of the 25 native tribes of Sarawak. Anah Rais is a large Bidayuh village and is one of the many longhouses that dot the Sarawak landscape, and is one of the oldest. About 100 families live in the longhouse, which is stilted above the ground to guard against flooding. The longhouse is built atop a large communal deck constructed of wood and bamboo, and are divided into a public area along one side and a row of private living quarters lined along the other side. Though the longhouse is traditional, its inhabitants do enjoy the modern conveniences of running water, electricity and satellite TV dishes (I'm not sure about wireless internet, though) and some tourist-centric enhancements have been added to the longhouse, but one still does get a sense of the traditional Bidayuh culture.
