Receiving Our Welcoming at the Bidayuh Longhouse's by el2995

Kuching - Malaysia The traditional costumes were worn for the benefit of the tourists. My daughter and I were each given a small cup of traditional Bidayuh rice wine during our welcoming, which was a bit tart but not bad. A better quality of Bidayuh rice wine, this one fortified with a tree bark that has medicinal properties, would later be provided by John, a Bidayuh longhouse resident that collects the bark and makes the wine himself. John runs a shop contained within the longhouse that sells souvenirs, food and drinks but also has a lot of Bidayuh handicrafts and traditional accoutrements on display. We would spend some time in the shop chatting with John and sampling the medicinal rice wine around a table in the back of the shop, and I would try my hand (and lungs) a shooting a Bidayuh blowgun at a dart board against the wall.
