Thanks for your compliment Krys, your added comment on Madonna told me something I did not know. The English newspapers are already regarding this catastrophe as old news, the important things seem to be those that sell the most newspapers, ie, celebrities! mostly z list nonentities. Some of the enormous resources that are being devoted to phoney wars could easily be diverted to help in instances such as this but I won't hold my breath.
Seismic activity is relatively common in Italy, but the intensity of the Abruzzo earthquake was rare. It was the worst in the nation since a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck Eboli, south of Naples, in 1980, killing more than 2,700 people. The last major quake to hit central Italy struck the Molise region in 2002, killing 28 people, including 27 children who died when their school collapsed.
