We followed Marianne's suggestion and opted for the Schilthorn. I changed from Wengen to Muerren and we had the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau filling up the windows of our room from dawn to dark every day. The Swiss rail pass we bought was our great friend for the four days from Zurich, up to Muerren and on to Geneva over the hill at Kandersteg. We walked in the wonderful September sunshine in the car-free streets of Murren. We strolled by the stunning alpine meadows in the Lauterbrunnen valley on a magic sunday afternoon with a most knowlegable guide who introduced us to the wonders of glacier rivers and the grotto behind the Staubach waterfall. We sat at a most welcoming stubhl while we hesitated to leave the magic of the valley to ascend once more to the "Dorf ob der Mauer" in the cable car and train by way of Gruetschalp. Only when i called up Google Earth on our return home did irealise how close the Muerrrenbahn staion is to the cliff-face. sorry i have let this run on in a very over-the top fashion. I thought it was Marianne who suggested Schilthorn but it was only confirmation of your suggestion.
