Bonjour Wojtekd,

Yes you are somewhat right:-)

The definition of a stopover is a 24hr stop. Therefore if you travel for example from London to Paris to Madrid, and spend less than 24hrs in Paris you have 2 segments/coupons and one stopover in Madrid. There is a maximum amount of stops in different continents/countries and also a minimum amount of stopovers required (3 I believe).

Also you must complete your travel in the same country you left from.

Hope that helped.

"Transfer" is not always limited to 24h. There was a recent movie about this with Tom Hanks! Transfer means CHANGING TO A NEW FLIGHT NUMBER. It usually means switching aircraft (like at a hub) and will usually count as a stop on a RTW or segment/coupon deal. It might also involve surface transport to another terminal or another airport across the city to access a new flight. Most airlines will offer a complimentary hotel room if the transfer is longer than 18 hours or delayed. "Stopover" is sleeping over at a destination for one or more nights. Each airline and alliance will have different words and rules for these! Best check with your agent.
