There was a fire in mid. 17 c. which had burnt down the library of the monastery and all the documents keeping data for the construction of the monastery were destroyed. According to some documents in Aton the first buidings of the complex were built in 9 c. According to others it's founded in 12-th c. As for the artist....I don't know who it is. I only know that the different parts of the church are painted from different people.
