Yazd travel tips

Pizza Restaurant
This is a nice pizza restaurant, which attracts young Iranians. Oddly, one had to order the food at the cashier, pay for it and then wait at the table for the waiter to arrive with the entire order. Although, I have not tried it, but it looked like I could have a drink first, and then the pizza. All had to arrive at the same time. The pizza was good. It was crispy and had plenty of cheese on it. No tomato sauce was used in the process but ketchup was available afterwards. The service was a bit slow but the table at the window with the view to the Amir Chakhmag Complex made it up to me. Pizzas are about 35,000 rials (€2.4) more

Malek-Tojjar Traditional Hotel
One of the delightful hotels converted from traditional houses in Yazd's old town. The rooms are arranged around a lovely courtyard-cum-garden. The hotel has a decent restaurant, too. Very relaxing. Access is however difficult as the hotel is deep inside the Panjeh Ali Bazaar through a narrow tunnel alley. more

Amir Chakhmag Cafe
Very authentic little place located inside the most fabulous structure of Yazd. Only locals go there, including Afghani refugees. Traditional Iranian food served only - kebabs and boneless chickens on skewers, all with onions, baked tomatoes and Iranian flat bread. One large dish with everything and a huge Iranian beer would come at €2. more

The Oasis Hotel
One of the three traditional hotels under the same management (Oasis, Orient, Silk Road) with immediate vicinity of the Jameh Mosqe, in the heart of the old town. Spectacular views over Yazd from the roof - ask permission, it is still being converted into a safe spot to be... Rooms come with bathroom at 200,000 rials (€13) for a single. The picture shows the windtower of the hotel and a view from the roof. more

The Orient Hotel Restaurant
Excellent restaurant in this traditional house converted into hotel and dining room. The restaurant has Indian and Yazdani menu. Everything is delicious. Sometimes there is buffet, which is a superb value. Individual dishes come at about 30,000 rials (€2), and the portions are large. The tables are places on the roof with awesome views over the old town and down to the inside garden with fountain. Magnificent! Fabulous! Highly recommended. more

The Orient Hotel
A traditional hotel in the old town of Yazd, literally yards from the famous Jameh Mosque. The views from the restaurant on the roof was incredible - the entire old town could be seen, the Jameh Mosque, the windtowers, the mosques in the distance - simply incredible. The rooms are simple but clean and ensuite bathrooms have European toilets and hot water all day. The personnel is superfriendly - exceptionally friendly! Highly recommended. I paid 200,000 rials (€13) per night, which was superb value. I did not want to leave!! more

Silk Road Hotel
Absolutely fabulous place, one of the three - the Orient, the Oasis and the Silk Road. It is a converted traditional house in the immediate vicinity of the Jameh Mosque. A wonderful garden inside! It is the most expensive from all the three, but at a price of 300,000 rials (€20) it is a superb value. Rooms come with bathroom. Views from the roof are incredible! more
