Agrigento is situated on the southern coast of Sicily and is often considered to have Greek remains equal in quality to those in Greece itself. The town is situated some 2 to 3km up from the coast with a purpose built and fascinating archaeological musem just over half way. Opposite to the museum is a site of the domestic remains [extensive but very ruined] from the classical period.
However, the pride of Agrigento is the Valley of the Temples, near the coast and connected with the town by a local bus from the station. The more complete remains are those to the left – east – of the road but those to the west include a lying telamon [huge figure of a man once forming a pillar]. There is a standing one, made up from parts, in the museum.
In the second week of February there is a festival to celebrate the almond blossom. [mandorlo in fiori] [edit text]  [editors]
