Ibo - Mozambique Hoopoe (Latin - upupa epops) is my surname. The European species of the bird are rare and are protected by law.

Perhaps it was just a fictional figure in the cartoon, then. In Polish the series were translated and the bird was called 'rapid ostrich' or something similar to that effect.
