Cuba, the largest of the Caribbean was transformed from an offshore casino for the rich to a tightly controlled socialistic state following a revolution. The popular opinion across the globe has been that this turned the Cubans into miserable and really unhappy people. This is a total misconception. In fact, many people have been better off following the fall of feudalism. During my two weeks on the island as I travelled the length of the country, I only met one slightly unhappy person, who was longing for a little more freedom, particularly regarding travelling to other countries. All other people I met, were happy, singing and dancing. They lived simple lives, but they did not complain. They smiled a lot and were exceptionally friendly.
The island has got perfect beaches, fabulous lagoons, green rolling hills, magnificent architecture, Pirates of the Caribbean like mystery showing with the mighty fortresses, and agreeable climate.
Recently, things seem to be changing a little... and what will they lead to?
